Mainland
Meadows
Trail

Length: 2.2 miles
Surface: Crushed granite and paved roads
Activities: Hiking, jogging, biking, pets
Parking: Whiting Park (northwest), McDill Elementary School
off of School St. (northeast)
The Mainland Meadows section provides bicycle access around
the Whiting Park Walking Trail. It spans from the intersection with
County HH (east) to the bridge over the Plover River at the edge of
Whiting Park (west).
This trail winds through scenic meadows
of grasses and wildflowers on its eastern end. Take a short break
from the Green Circle and hike trails through the well fields of the
Village of Whiting. This area was recently replanted with trees
after oak wilt disease killed off much of the original woodlands. A
large kiosk describes the story of oak wilt in the village, and an
adjacent nature trail identifies the newly planted trees.
The
majority of the trail follows roads through quiet neighborhoods.
Just south of the intersection with Business 51,
Lesmire's
Village Gardens (Plover) features dazzling flower gardens,
waterfalls, fanciful sculptures, a miniature village, and llamas and
goats. A gas station and restaurant are available at the busy
intersection with Business 51 (use extreme caution when crossing).
Whiting Park Walking Trail AlternativeIf
you're hiking or jogging, the
Whiting Park
Walking Trail is an excellent alternative to the Mainland
Meadows that follows the shore of the Plover River through a park.
It meets the Mainland Meadows Trail at both its east and west ends.
Bicycles are not allowed.

Hoover Road Trail Spur
Near the Mainland Meadow's eastern end, you can access the paved
Hoover Road Trail Spur (4.9
miles) that connects Stevens Point with the Village of
Plover. It travels through several parks and intersects with the
Tomorrow River State Trail.
