about the Green CircleBeing an avid fan and user of the Green Circle and its corollaries I was troubled. In late winter of 2010, I learned that the University Trail through Schmeeckle Reserve would be altered due to a reclamation project (Moses Creek Restoration). When I saw the proposed plans I thought there is another good thing gone.
Boy was I wrong. From a safe distance I monitored the clearing of land and watched the waters rise. This caused some trails adjacent to the restoration area to be eliminated, but these are now being replaced with wide boardwalks.
In the last two months the project has really taken shape and I'm happy to say my fears were unfounded. I should have had more faith in the folks planning this project as it is turning out to be an enhancement to the Circle. What a fine native addition to the trail and our community.
As a postscript, the construction company doing the work, Earth Inc., has outstanding operators, especially the huge Caterpillar backhoe operators and a young man on a John Deere dozer who is an absolute artist.

Green Circle Trail volunteers deserve a big thanks from all of us that use the trail and even from those that don't use it because of its economic impact.
When my wife and I moved to Stevens Point 11 years ago, we felt that the trail was a big part of our decision to make the move here. The trail allowed us to take part in hiking, biking, snowshoeing, berry picking, skiing, etc. practically from our doorstep, which gave us balance to our working lives and homeownership duties. The views are wonderful and most sections of the trail do not have any traffic. I am also very proud to take friends and family from out of town on a summer trail ride when they come to visit.
The new section off of Wilshire [Moses Creek Trail] is amazing with a beautiful boardwalk/bridge that is hundreds of yards long as it goes over some wet wooded areas. Thank you volunteers -- what a great piece of work you did. I can't imagine how many hours it took. The Green Circle Trail has many bridges and boardwalks -- none like this.

The community is so very appreciative of the great work done by the student crew who built the terrific boardwalk through the new Moses Creek section this summer. We look forward to recognizing their efforts at a grand re-opening this next spring.

I just wanted to drop a note that I had the pleasure of riding the trail twice while attending a conference in Stevens Point last week. I was impressed by the variety of sights, abundant wildlife and the loop aspect of the trail (instead of riding out and back over the same trail). I also was pleased to see high school youth using the trail as a "classroom". I'll be back!
